Can I repair a dent, crack or hole in my kayak?
Emotion Kayaks are made of rugged “Linear Polyethylene” plastic. We use the highest amount of UV inhibitors possible to keep them looking vibrant as long as possible. After exhaustive testing we settled on a plastic formula that has, what we think is the perfect blend of impact strength, rigidity, and flexibility.
You may find a dent in your kayak at some point. This typically is due to improper storage or transport. If your kayak is stored flat on it’s hull, left in one position all winter, or it is strapped to the roof rack to tightly can cause indentions.
Not to worry, these dents will pop out. Place the kayak in the sun on a warm day for a couple hours, and it will return to its original shape. If it is a very deep dent, your can help it along by pushing it out when the kayak warms up. Plastic has “memory”, so even if you do nothing at all it will eventually to return to its original form. Do not try to remove the dent with direct heat such as a heat gun or a torch!
Emotion kayaks are extremely durable and rarely require repair. If somehow you get a crack, a hole, or a deep gouge in your kayak, it is repairable. Linear polyethylene can be welded using a suitable heat gun and some spare polyethylene.
