Team Emotion Finishes Strong
at Kayak Slam Fishing Tournament

Congratulations to John Lee, Adam Gross and Mark Couch of the Emotion Kayaks Fishing Team for their outstanding performance at the Kayak Slam Event January 12th in Placida, Florida.

Warm weather greeted the anglers, with temperatures in the low 80’s and light winds.  A falling tide produced a great morning bite according to most anglers. At noon the tide switched and anglers had a brief incoming tide before returning to the check in at 3:30.  Always strong when the chips are down, both Couch and Gross caught their best fish in the last 15 minutes.

Josh Brown of Pt Charlotte registered a 3 species slam total (trout, redfish, and snook) of 68.5” narrowly defeating Team Emotions, John Lee.  Lee, who has won his last two tournaments, ended up with a three fish total of 63.25 inches.  John’s monster Redfish, 30.5”, won the big fish and biggest Redfish award.

Adam Gross added another strong performance finishing 5th place overall with a slam measuring 59”.  Mark Couch caught a 26.5” redfish with only 15 minutes remaining and placed second place in the Redfish division, and 11th overall.

John and Mark both fish out of Emotion Mojo anglers, while Adam chooses the Emotion Fisherman Model. 

The team focused their efforts on the Pirate Harbor area on the east shore of Charlotte Harbor. They worked a combination of potholes and sandbars using top water early and twitch baits later in the day.  Popular lures included: Berkley Gulp Jerk Baits, Exude Darts, and DOA Shad Tails in assorted colors.
