Emotion Fishing Team WINS
at Calusa Pro-Am Kayak Fishing Tournament

November 4th 2007

The Emotion Kayak Fishing Team capped off a successful fishing season with a victory at the Causa Pro-Am Tournament in Cape Coral Florida.  A first-of-its-kind nationwide, this pro-and-amateur tournament involved one day of team fishing by kayak-industry professionals and one day of family and individual fishing by amateurs.  The event ran Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 3-4, at Matlacha Community Park, 4577 Pine Island Road, Matlacha.

The Emotion Team was comprised of four members, Blake Beltz, March Couch, John lee, and Adam Gross. Because they are all sponsored by Emotion, they fished in the "Pro Day" November 3rd. Results were based on a digital picture weigh in which is now becoming standard with most tournaments. It allows fish to be photographed and released unharmed. The ultimate goal in the competition is to catch a Grand Slam (or slam), which means catching a Redfish, Snook, and Sea Trout. The team with the total combined length for the 3 species is determined to be the winner.

Within the first hour Blake and Mark got the first SLAM of the day. Mark had a 28" red. The rest of the day was about upgrading fish. Soon after, John up'd Blake’s 15" Snook to 32" snook. Everyone took turns upping the other. It was an awesome day of fishing which John Lee capped with the biggest trout, a 22 incher.  This gave TEAM EMOTION a grand total of 82". The team was the first team to weigh in; an hour before the 3pm deadline. Most coming in did not have a slam, and with John's monster snook it was looking good.(He ultimately won the biggest fish of the day award).  After the results were tallied the 82” Slam was determined to be the most inches of the day.

“These guys are awesome”, said Emotion Kayaks David Hadden, “and the thing about them is, they have fun.”  The team has racked up a successful season placing at almost a dozen events scattered across Florida.  We will be posting results regularly on the website next season, so stayed tuned for more information and updates.  The final results are available on the Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival Events website.
